Family Photography Session, Atlantic Highlands, NJ
This time last year I had such a lovely time doing a spring outdoor family photography session with K+D at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside, New Jersey. At the time, their son was one year old. It was so fun watching him crawl and take in everything around him, smiling and giggling with his mom and dad. This year, we did another spring outdoor family photography session, at Sandy Hook Beach which includes Fort Hancock. How special to see and capture how he’s grown. And what a difference a year makes. Now that K+D’s son is two, his personality comes through even more in the photos. He was equal parts happy to play with mom and dad and explore on his own.
With Sandy Hook, unlike some other places at the Jersey Shore, there’s the chance to explore the beach, the seaside greenery via bike paths or off-roading, the rocky coves, the lighthouse and the retired Fort Hancock with its old structures no longer in use. There are so many places – and natural elements – to explore. We saw a feisty, little crab scuttling along the beach, a beautiful black, orange and yellow winged bird in the shrubs, and signs telling us to look out for turtles and horseshoe crabs.
K+D’s son was most interested in the old fort, so away we went. He loved to climb the huge rock walls, jump off into his dad’s arms, and wander around the expansive old artillary tracks. This little guy, with his great big smile and these towering structures. Too precious.
Here are some of my favorite shots of our time together:
